Instead of a plain and simple brown envelope I wanted the pack to be beautifully designed and interesting from the inside and the outside. In order to create an interesting edge to the envelope and to keep printing costs down I decided to try and look at origami envelope folds to add an extra creative and designed element to the design.
I spent the best part of a day trying out different styles of fold looking for one that when folded fit, as close as possible, an A4 format and didn't require a crease for the front of the envelope to keep the front design looking sharp and untouched.
Eventually I found a fold style called a bar fold envelop. This kind of design was exactly what I needed in terms of size and keeping the front cover crease free but it was a difficult style to master and there were many, many attempts at getting it right.
Once I'd gotten the technique down I measure out the creases to determine what size paper I'd need and where to put the front design so it would line up correctly. After everything worked out and lined up properly I went on to produce the look for the final envelope covers.
