Type Face- 2014

One of the first briefs we received in our first year was to create a typeface with six symbol glyphs based on a person; I was partnered with a guy named Luke Massiah. I decided to use his personality as the basis for the design and create a style that would become a typographic portrait.

My final design was bold heavy and yet relaxed type. Luke's character is an incredibly dominant one, bold and loud, the chunky dark strokes and heavy feel of the type was chose to represent this. He is also friendly and very approachable, capable of starting a conversation with anyone, to demonstrate this I rounded the corners of the strokes making sure that although the glyphs were strong they weren't sharp on the eye. Highly social in all manners of social media I chose glyphs that would be regularly used on sites such as facebook and twitter. And finally, he is a relaxed and lazy individual, I chose to 'slump' all the letters as if they were bold glyphs post yawn, relaxed and lazy letters, relaxed and lazy Luke.
