The digital development of this design was fair straight forwards. After outlining each component I spent most of my time on arranging the final design. I initially experimented with some of the layouts I had quickly sketched earlier on in the brief, however a lot of these compositions looked very awkward. With so much illustrative detail placed into both the text and the image it was difficult to try and keep both as the main element of the design whilst creating a harmonious composition.
So in order to create a better flowing design I analysed both elements and decided that the type was the most important of the two. It carried the appropriate tone of voice and the main message behind the design and so needed to be the main focus. So from here it was all a matter of including the image in some way that added to the type rather than detracting from the design.
I decided that removing the outline and using the image in a repeat pattern would best show it off without distracting attention from the type.
The faded opacity made the type stand out further and joined both elements together in better arranged whole. I feel that where I had initially gone wrong with this brief was the belief that type and image can compliment each other when they are both the 'stars' of the show. Instead it is type's job to compliment the image as a main feature or vice versa. This is why I initially struggled with the composition having two very highly detailed elements clashing against each other. However with the changes made the final design has a better sense of balance and works well as a final, strong image.
